I realized that my hair was getting long and I was starting to look like a Q-Tip. The last time I legitimately got my hair cut by a licensed professional was at least 15+ years ago. Typically, when it starts to get long I just do what I can with my clippers at home and have my wife help finish the back. If you have ever had a "home" cut before, you know the drill. You wait for your significant other or parent to gasp mid cut and then when you ask, "What's wrong?", the answer is always a conspicuous "nothing". Meanwhile, in realization you have a 1 inch gash of hair missing. It's pretty much standard for the "home" cut.
I decided I was going to go to a barber shop for the first time ever. If you have ever had your car maintenanced, I got the equivalent of Ford's "The Works" package of hair cuts. First the hair faded and trimmed, followed by some eyebrow work, ending with a full lathered shave! If you've seen my face before, you are probably laughing right now. It typically takes me a week to grow what equates to a middle school-like beard. I was actually very nervous to go to a barber shop but had a great experience, even though a stranger held a blade near my neck.
When was the last time you tried a new experience? You are guaranteed to go through a roller coaster of emotions along the way but you will grow in the process. Routine is great but it can also breed complacency. Try something new this week and if you've never had "The Works" package at a barber shop, you're missing out!
