I'm going to Australia and New Zealand. It still hasn't sunk in yet but I am fearful of the almost 24 hour flight time from Columbus, Ohio to Sydney, Australia to Queenstown, New Zealand. I wonder how many bags of airline pretzels I can eat in that span? The fear of the flight almost didn't allow this trip to happen. Like most things we are afraid of in life, what you focus on is what typically plays out. Rather than focusing on the extreme flight time or the potential to be seated next to an NFL lineman or the smelly guy who takes off his shoes, I'm choosing to see opportunity. To experience amazing things we have never seen or done, we have to sacrifice and go through uncomfortable moments.
When the plane lands we plan to go snorkeling in the Great Barrier Reef, walk the Sydney Harbor Bridge, and see an Australian Rules Football game. The list of first time experiences is long and I'm looking forward to sharing them with all of you in upcoming posts.
What is your "stuck on a plane" in life? What if you saw it as an opportunity instead of something you were afraid of or avoided? What are you missing out on because of this fear? Shift your focus to opportunity and the positives along the way to push through this fear.
